Description
The Wurtherington Diary: The Little Doll Girl. Art by Duy Truong.
September 3, 1883
Dear Diary,
The night was still young and I discovered the true value of compassion quite unexpectedly.
General Chumchuga, Chief Wanakua, and the other tribal lords anticipated the order. "We will kill the wounded royal soldiers left on the battlefield. They are unworthy scum that deserve only a quick death." All agreed and turned to the battlefield littered with the dead and dying.
I stood upon the head of the korgoyle and made a decree. "No one will kill a wounded soldier. That is their way, not ours."
Chumchuga and many others disagreed. "It has always been...."
"We will rule with compassion--even for the enemy. I have gotten you this far. Would I lead you down a wrongful path?"
"No." They all agreed that I would never do that.
I felt almost sick that I had caused all this bloodshed. I was also worried that Catherine and Lucinda would lick their wounds and come back on a rampage and burn all the villages. Killing everyone who got in their way was a way of life for that pair. We may have won this battle and enjoyed a moment of glory, however I knew that the war had just begun.
