Description
Art by Duy Truong...........
Ned Buntline handed him his card. "I am Ned Buntline from New York and I am here to get your story for my newspaper."
I could see that James Hickok was annoyed. His game was interrupted by this greenhorn from the East and then had the nerve to sneak up on him during a card game. James Hickok said, "I'm gonna give you jist twenty-four hours to git out a the fort unless ya want to be pushin' up daisies on Sunday mornin'."
"You don't understand. I can make you famous!"
James Hickok looked at his watch and said, "You have just lost thirty seconds of precious time to git."
One of the card players said, "I seen him shoot others for less. You better git if ya know what's good fur ya."
James Hickok fired his gun into the roof and a terrified Ned Buntline came racing out the door. "He's going to kill me tomorrow!" He sat on a bench and held his heart trying to catch his breath. "We must leave! What time does that stagecoach arrive?"
Zeke said, "We have a whole day yet before he kills ya."
Cedric said, "He never said nothin' about the rest of us. I don't see any particular rush."
"That's easy for you to say," said Ned Buntline. "He's not out gunnin' for you."

One of my heros...Cody was a friend of my husband's grandfather. And now...I think it's time to read that new book(s), Reynold. I'm going to go and check out your website. (BEAUTUFUL ARTWORK, DUY TRUONG)! Fav
Reynold Jay replied:
Thank you, Barbara. Cody was a true American hero. Small world that you have ties with him.

Very compelling story behind the artwork, thank you for sharing, and an excellent illustration. I am a big fan of your style based on delicate, nervous-like outlines and muted colours.

Reynold...great pictorial of the classic meeting of an Eastern greenhorn and a rough...no nonsense Westerner...a man of action...not to be messed with. You can read the story in their faces. The business card vs the gun... love it!!...Thomas
Reynold Jay replied:
Thank you, Thomas. Yes--tensions were high at this moment in the tale. Soon, they became best of friends.
Skip Willits
Outstanding work Reynold of two fellows about which most people today would not have a clue.
Reynold Jay replied:
Thank you, Skip. I imagine you are correct. There is a network of collectors who helped me out in finding original photos, etc. I really did not understand just how wonderful these characters were in real life until I researched for the series. I decide they were such a grand part of American history that I got two books out of it.
