Description
The Wurtherington Diary: Tammy and the Declaration of Independence Art by Duy Truong.
I remembered the Liberty Bell housed in the tower. "I found a bell not far from here. I was told that it had a crack in it and that it has been repaired. Now you are afraid to ring it because it may crack once again. I say we go out and ring the bell of liberty and let freedom ring as it has never rung before. If it should crack again, I say we let it be, as it will remind future generations that we were not afraid to ring it and would not let a little thing like a crack in a bell or a king on a tiny island sway us from our resolve."
"Hear, Hear!"
With that we all pushed through the door and climbed the staircase that led to the Liberty Bell. Everyone wondered who should ring it. Many wanted me to ring it and I agreed only if John Hancock would do it with me. We all agreed that John Hancock represented the entire body and it should be him. We shared the rope and rang the bell.
It was crisp and clear.
"Let freedom ring!" they shouted. The bell, as we had anticipated, gained a crack in its side and to this day it stands as a symbol of freedom for all to see.
