Description
Art by Duy Truong. I could see a scattering of scarecrows off to one side. Rupert saw that I was puzzled. He said, "We use them to practice our maneuvers."
Zeke and Valkira joined us at that moment. We were all puzzled and Rupert saw that we did not understand. He instructed Shuman and Valdus to give us a demonstration. While they were boarding a pair of hawks, he said, "We had Austrian soldiers visit us many years ago and we found them to be most unkind. We asked them to leave and they refused to go. So—"
Shuman and Valdus raced above the scarecrows with a large rock suspended on a chain. As they whisked over their heads, the rock struck the heads of the scarecrows knocking them to the ground.
"Holy cow!" said Zeke and Cedric. "That is really something! We would like to try that too. Could we?"
