Description
We have partially restored it to its Victorian beauty. We did did keep the withered pages intact as we wanted the reader to experience the joy of viewing the book as would any modern-day collector.
We hope that children may learn and enjoy from it. Look for other ABC books in this vintage 1883 series.
Raphael Tuck & Sons was a business started by Raphael Tuck and his wife in Bishopsgate in the City of London on October 1866,[1] selling pictures and greeting cards, and eventually selling postcards, the latter being the most successful. This included children's books that were illustrated by some of the best artists of the age.
Their business was one of the most well known in the 'postcard boom' of the late 1800s and early 1900s. Their contributions left a lasting effect on most of the artistic world. During The Blitz, the company headquarters, Raphael House, was destroyed including the originals for most of their series. The company never fully recovered.
We will be restoring several ABC books and listing them here as they would make wonderful art for any child's bedroom wall. Art is in Public Domain as it is over one hundred years old. Circ 1900-1902

Sweet art, love the old style & how dogs were often included (thankfully) :) The shadowing & color changes on the A, B & C is lovely. voted!

I'd completly forgotten they were made from linen until I read the description...then the warm, fond memories flooded in of those wonderful vintage books that were treasured and re read over and over, What a gift you are giving to many Reynold! :))
Reynold Jay replied:
Thank you, Lexa. They did Linen and most of those "bleed" and are nearly un savable. The paper editions are better to work on. .
