Art by Duy Truong...................General Oliver Howard opened the door. He said, "You may come in now."
President Grant came out from behind his desk and greeted each of us. I could see that General Oliver Howard and Eli S. Parker had prepared him for my associates and he did well to hold back his astonishment at seeing talking animals for the first time (and probably his last). Alfred swept his hat across the carpet in a grand gesture. He said, "It is indeed a pleasure to meet you, Mr. President. I do thank you for meeting with us this afternoon."
