ABC Father Tuck art by ( many by Francis Brundage)
In book six, Tammy writes in her diary, "As you might imagine, an opossum, a mongoose, and a bird cannot read at all; although I had taught Zeke and Cedric to write their names. They had learned the first four letters of the alphabet from an ABC book Lord Wixby had given me. I was proud of them. After all, how many animals would ever want to read?"
Several books were discovered in the shed along with the diary including this one by Father Tuck. We imagine that Tammy used this book to teach Cedric and Zeke to read.
We have restored several water colors form Alice Hardwick's Little Wooden Shoes to its Victorian beauty. We did did keep the withered pages intact as we wanted the reader to experience the joy of viewing the book as would any modern-day collector.
We hope that children may learn and enjoy from it. Look for other ABC books in this vintage 1883 series.
Raphael Tuck & Sons was a business started by Raphael Tuck and his wife in Bishopsgate in the City of London on October 1866,[1] selling pictures and greeting cards, and eventually selling postcards, the latter being the most successful. This included children's books that were illustrated by some of the best artists of the age.
Their business was one of the most well known in the 'postcard boom' of the late 1800s and early 1900s. Their contributions left a lasting effect on most of the artistic world. During The Blitz, the company headquarters, Raphael House, was destroyed including the originals for most of their series. The company never fully recovered.
We will be restoring several ABC books and listing them here as they would make wonderful art for any child's bedroom wall. Art is in Public Domain as it is over one hundred years old. Circ 1900-1902

I feel like I’m back in my childhood looking at these darlings. I like the black stockings in wooden clogs.
