Description
Wurtherington, Diary, art by Tenda Spencer.
Then I understood....
My ability to time travel came from my necklace and Lucinda warned me never to lose it. Mardonio was wearing a necklace much like mine. Could that be the source of his power? If so, I knew what I had to do. I signaled Zeke and Cedric to my side. I said, "I will distract him. I want you get do whatever you must to tear that necklace off him and then smash it into a thousand pieces."
They both gave me a salute. "You can count on us, Mistress Tammy."
They flew back into battle with the evil caliph.
I drew my cutlass. I said, "Mardonio, you are a coward and use your spells to defend yourself. Without your magic, you would be a sniveling rodent. I am a mere ten-year-old girl and even I could subdue you!" I marched toward him with my sword pointed at him. "I dare you to withhold your spells for one short minute while I cut you to ribbons."
I braced myself for the lightening bolt he was sure to hurl at me. I had a shield, but it would do little to protect me. This was a battle of deception and slight of handall done to allow Cedric and Zeke that one tiny moment they needed to get close and grab the necklace. I could see they were ready to pounce upon him.
Mardonio sneered at all this and prepared to hurl a bolt of lightning.
In the blink of an eye, Cedric rushed forward and tore the necklace from Mardonio!
"What the devil? Give that back!" shouted the caliph.
Cedric flew to the other side of the room and hurled the necklace to the floor. It shattered into a thousand pieces.
