Francis Brundage was born Frances Isabelle Lockwood on June 28, 1854 in Newark, New Jersey. Her father did wood engravings, painted church murals, and portraits. She learned art from her father and sold her first professional work to Louisa Amy Alcott, an author. She is noted for her depiction of children and became one of the notable artists of her time. She did many books covers and these were often sold as postcards.

I absolutely LOVE this style of art. It brings me back to the time of reading children's books myself and to my children. I would think that a dog called "Spot" would have at least one spot on it....must be the big brown one!

Thank you Carlin! I may change the title!
