Description
The Wurtherington Diary: Tammy meets Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves: Art by Tenda Spencer. This is a pivotal moment in the diary.
The vulture riders had completed the turn and regrouped into battle formation. One wave of vulture riders descending upon us like this would mean certain death for nearly all of us. Polly landed and Zeke handed me the golden vulture. I placed it on my arm and told the others to hop off. "I must do this alone!' I said. I had Polly stand on the barricade where she should could be seen easily by the approaching vulture army. I gave the command. "Roxanne, take us up and hover over Polly's head." That was it for now. I could only hope the vultures would see us and stop the advance.
Mansa Musa's warriors stood firm with bows drawn.
I stood proudly with the sacred bird on my arm. She called out, "Caw, caw, caw!"
Polly called out, "Caw caw caw!"
The flock of vultures were advancing upon us like a tidal wave. I felt a wave of terror as they rushed at me.
The advancing army returned the call, "Caw, caw, caw!"
