The Wurtherington Diary: Tammy and the Declaration of Independence Art by Duy Truong
"Hear, Hear!"
With that we all pushed through the door and climbed the staircase that led to the Liberty Bell. Everyone wondered who should ring it. Many wanted me to ring it and I agreed only if John Hancock would do it with me. We all agreed that John Hancock represented the entire body and it should be him. We shared the rope and rang the bell.
It was crisp and clear.
"Let freedom ring!" they shouted. The bell, as we had anticipated, gained a crack in its side and to this day it stands as a symbol of freedom for all to see.

Reynold, this is such an iconic representation of the Liberty Bell! I also enjoyed your description; the crack reminds me of something in Navajo lore. The rug weavers leave one imperfect thread in the traditional pattern, a 'flaw' or 'crack, to allow the spirit of the work to escape! l/f
Reynold Jay replied:
Thank you Liz---Thank you for the THREAD info!!!! Nice to know!
