Description
Art by Duy Truong.... Poster size......With this piece of art, I would like to mention that it was my hope that we could take children's illustration to a higher standard. Rather than meeting deadlines, I wanted my artists to do their very best to create a work of art that would endure the passage of time. The stories are timeless, and with any luck, these stories would be my legacy. When Duy began sending off the drafts on this one I was very excited as I could see this would be one of her classic interior scenes. At one point she asked, "What time of day is it?" I told her that I greatly anticipated light beaming through the window. Duy was a master of lighting and when one examines her art, you can see it runs through all her pieces. "Tammy's Back Yard," "The Baby Hoargg" and others come to mind. In this piece, one can see the light streaming through the window, across the chairs and touching the flower setting upon the table.......In this illustration William Tell has arrived to speak "man to man" with Duke Leopold who has abandoned his army in the midst of battle. ( It was a crafty trap set by William Tell and Swiss Generals)
The narrative........
Zeke tossed an apple into the air. William Tell loosed an arrow. It sailed across the room slicing the apple in half. It passed an inch from Leopold's ear and struck the wall behind. Leopold turned to see the arrow piercing the heart of the portrait upon the wall.
Cedric pulled the arrow and handed it to Leopold. "It is a little present from us to you, Leopold."
William Tell said, "Thou hath until the early spring moon to sign a document and declare to the world that the Schwyz are a free people. Wait one more day and I will be back with a second arrow for ye."........
Duy has brought the scene to life as only she can do. Look closely and one can see the split apple. Enjoy.

Hi Shirley...Yep--Duy is my gal that I will never let go. This was a ton of work for her. Many intricate details went into this one. This was about ten times the work as the water color next to this one.
