Jesse Cole said, "And that is Tammy Wurtherington! I SAY WE HAVE TAMMY WURTHERINGTON FOR SHERIFF!"
A roar of approval hit the balcony and he walked over to me. He said, "How about it, Ms. Wurtherington￿will you be our new sheriff?"
I said, "Give me a moment to discuss this with my mouse."
"You heard the girl," said Jesse Cole. "She needs to discuss it with her mouse!"
￿Another wave of laughter filled the room while I huddled behind the bar with Alfred. "What do you think, Alfred? Should we do this?"
Alfred said, "He is making a mockery of the law and thinks you will be easily intimidated. I say we do it and turn this town around."
I came up from behind the bar and said, "Yes, I will be the new sheriff!" He pinned the sheriff's badge on me and I took the oath.
Applause filled the room.
I said, "Thank you for electing me the sheriff and I will do my very best to bring law and order to Coloma."
Someone said, "Have another glass of milk, Sheriff!"
