Francis Brundage was born Frances Isabelle Lockwood on June 28, 1854 in Newark, New Jersey. Her father did wood engravings, painted church murals, and portraits. She learned art from her father and sold her first professional work to Louisa May Alcott, an author. She is noted for her depiction of children and became one of the notable artists of her time. She did many books covers and these were often sold as postcards.
This is a Woolson Spice Co. Trade Card published 1893.

How adorable! Soft sweet innocence.. Wonderful work you do Reynold to bring these treasures back to life!
Maria Hunt
Oh Bless your kind heart for resurrecting Frances Brundage's work. I googled "Art by Maria Hunt" a few years back and came up with a Still Life done in the late 1800's by a Maria Hunt. It was such a sensitive work, dark in colors or faded, but so beautiful. That is all I can find about her.. One still life painting.. nothing else, as you have provided for Francis Brundage. You are a kind soul, RJ. Obviously, Louisa May Alcott was a woman of taste : )). With kind regards, Maria
